Committee on University Education Pathways Beyond 2015
So what next when MOE reaches its target of 30% university cohort participation rate in 2015?
The Committee on University Education Pathways beyond 2015, chaired by Minister of State (for Defence and Education) Mr Lawrence Wong, will comprise 15 members from the public, private and people spheres. The Committee was announced by Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat on 16 August 2011, and the first meeting was held recently.
The Committee will examine how the university sector can better provide opportunities for Singaporeans to obtain a university education. The Committee will study feasible models and strategies, international trends, and Singapore’s own unique context.
In the course of their work, the Committee will consult stakeholders, and also welcomes feedback and comments from the public.
Scope of Review
In formulating its recommendations, the Committee will consult and engage extensively with different stakeholders, including education providers from the IHLs and junior colleges, employers and industry representatives, alumni from local universities and polytechnics, and prospective undergraduates. In its engagement, the Committee will make use of a variety of platforms, including focus group discussions and online consultations. The Committee aims to finalise and submit its recommendations to the Government by end-2012.
Committee Members
The Committee will include members from a wide cross-section of individuals from the public, private and youth sectors. This diverse representation will allow the Committee to consider issues from all relevant angles.
