Direct Polytechnic Admission Exercise
What is Direct Polytechnic Admission (DPA) Exercise?
The DPA Exercise is an admission exercise that allows students, who have an interest and aptitude for polytechnic education, to confirm a place in a polytechnic course prior to their GCE O-Level examinations.
DPA allows the polytechnics greater flexibility to select students on criteria other than examination results, thus allowing a wider range of talents to be recognised.
All 5 polytechnics are participating:
- Nanyang Polytechnic
- Ngee Ann Polytechnic
- Republic Polytechnic
- Singapore Polytechnic
- Temasek Polytechnic
When does the DPA Exercise begin?
The DPA Exercise will begin on 4 July 2013, for admission into the polytechnics in 2014.
What is the selection criteria for the DPA exercise
Each polytechnic has its own selection criteria, which can be found on their respective websites. Polytechnics will take into account your abilities, talents and interests in the specific courses that you are applying for.
If you have been made a conditional offer in the DPA exercise, you must still meet the admission criteria for the polytechnic course you had applied for in order to confirm a place in the course. This is to ensure that students admitted through DPA will be able to cope with the rigour of a polytechnic education.
Once you secure a place in the polytechnic through the DPA, you will not be able to take part in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) or Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE).
What are the benefits of applying through the DPA?
- You will secure a place in the polytechnics prior to your GCE O-Level Examinations.
- You will be able to attend an 8-week Polytechnic Preparatory Programme at the polytechnics, before the start of the formal polytechnic academic year, in April 2014.
The JC route
If you are interested in the JC pathway and wish to gain direct admission to a JC, you can participate in the DSA-JC Exercise, which is conducted during the same period as the DPA Exercise.
Please visit the DSA-JC Exercise website for more information on the DSA-JC Exercise.
Note: While you can participate in both DSA-JC and DPA exercises, you cannot accept both JC and polytechnic places. This is to prevent more places than necessary from being taken up in the JCs or polytechnics. Students who accept both DPA and DSA-JC offers will be disqualified from both exercises.
