Entrance Proficiency Test
All candidates who have applied for a teaching position are required to undergo teacher training at the National Institute of Education (NIE). As part of the requirements for admission to the NIE, candidates will need to sit for and pass the relevant Entrance Proficiency Test (EPT) if:
- they do not meet the exemption criteria for the EPT or
- they do not possess a valid pass in the EPT (a valid pass refers to a pass that is still within the validity period as indicated in the Statement of Results.)
ALL candidates who are successful in their application to the Bachelor of Arts (Education) or Bachelor of Science (Education) programme, must meet the minimum requirements of the English Language Proficiency Test (EL EPT) before their admission to NIE in July, if they do not meet the exemption criteria. This is also applicable to candidates specialising in Mother Tongue Language course.
From 2013, candidates are required to sit and meet the minimum requirements of the relevant EPT(s) before they are deployed to schools as untrained teachers.
Registration Process
For information on the registration process, test dates and payment details, please refer to the individual EPT weblinks below.
Important Note
MOE will inform candidates if they are successful in their application only after their EPT results have been released. Candidates are thus advised to sit for the EPT on the scheduled test date in order not to jeopardise their application.
